Joshua Leifer (joining us from Israel via Zoom) in Conversation with Rabbi Gary Bretton-Granatoor about Tablets Shattered

January 19 @ 10:00 am

Join us for a thought-provoking discussion between Joshua Leifer, acclaimed journalist and author of Tablets Shattered, and Rabbi Gary Bretton-Granatoor. Tablets Shattered delves into the history and future of American Jewish identity, exploring the diverse experiences and perspectives of Jewish groups of all denominations and political beliefs. In today’s uncertain climate, Leifer’s examination of the evolving relationship between American Jews and the State of Israel is particularly timely.

As one commentator has noted, “Josh’s voice on Israel is left-of-center. He uses the word ‘occupation,’ which may make some of our congregants uncomfortable. His critique of the Israeli government for the occupation, and his sympathy for the rights of Palestinians, may be unsettling to many of us. But if we want to understand the feelings of our children and grandchildren on Israel, we have to be able listen to this point of view. Josh and his new bride are spending their first year of marriage in Israel. He votes with his feet, and we need to hear him and the views of many in his generation. If not, we will stare at our children and grandchildren with mutual incomprehension.”
