Current State of Civil Discourse with Professor John Rose

Professor John Rose is Associate Director of the Civil Discourse Project at Duke University in addition to teaching courses on Ethics and Political Polarization. In his program for our congregation, he will discuss ways to create civil discourse on college compasses, including free expression and intellectual dissent in the classroom. In this time of increased antisemitism on university and college compasses he will talk about what faculty and administrators can do to make their students feel heard, supported, and safe. Given the current political environment during this election year and the political fallout from the war between Israel and Hamas, his approach and ideas are especially useful as we all deal with the lack of civil discourse, hate speech, and antisemitism in our personal and professional lives.
